Soulja Boy – the baby-faced rap/hip-hop(?) phenom that made a name for himself on YouTube by creating this Bar-Mitzvah generation’s Electric Slide – is launching another project on the medium that made him famous.
In an attempt to capitalize on the 18 year-old’s online popularity, Interscope Records will release the label’s first original, online series: Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em: The Animated Series.
Through a mix of live-action and animation, the series will chronicle Soulja Boy’s fictional return to highschool after he “became a superstar and got famous or whatever.” Once he’s matriculating, he’ll use his celebrity status to get him (and BFFs Arab and Jabbar) in and out of the kinds of trouble that’s beyond the scope of your average, non-Grammy-nominated teenager. No word yet on if Ice-T makes an appearance.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look:
Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em is directed by Eric Towner (of Robot Chicken) and also features a pimped out segway and Alfonso Ribiero (of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air). Maybe the latter will throw in a Cartlon Dance for old time’s sake. Find out when the series debutes January 6 at TellEm.TV.
