In November 2005, Irina Slutksy told Eddie Codel to grab his camera. The two then ventured inside San Francisco’s Bubble of Web 2.0 (a term that was okay to use back then) to interview their friends who were intimately involved in the scene.
Geek Entertainment TV began as an irreverent, fun-loving yet informative, tech-focused talk show and, over the past three years, has turned into a celebration of all things fanatical, usually (but not necessarily) with a tech bent.
That includes a deconstruction of LOLs, a look at killer kites, a bunch of nerdcore, a Vlog Deathmatch, and – of course – David Hasselhoff:
The show just celebrated its third birthday (which makes it 27 in Internet Years – it’s a 9:1 ratio, obviously), but Irina tells me Geek Entertainment TV is just ramping up.
Energized with a new field producer that moved across the country to be a part of the show, Irina aims to maintain a consistent schedule of one episode a week, covering people with a passion for wonderful things who appear to be pretty awesome now, but most likely had a different reputation in high school (because they’re geeks!).
When Irina was in New York, we caught up for a few to talk about the evolution of the show, making money online, and how having David Hasselhoff’s digital agent is going to make her HUGE in Germany:
The claim that Geek Entertainment TV is the second longest running webshow next to Rocketboom isn’t quite accurate – Something to Be Desired, Tiki Bar TV, Mobuzz TV, come to mind – but still, three years is a llloooonnnngggg time online. Congrats to Irina and Eddie and looking forward to more GETV.
