FX Sitcom Gets Sneak Preview on MySpace

The critically acclaimed “It’s Always Sunny” is due for another season on FX, and the episode “Mac Is a Serial Killer” will debut a month early on MySpace, August 16th through 23rd, on the show’s own MySpace page.

It’s an attempt by FX to engage the college community and  the core male 18-34 demographic to promote the show.

“It’s a perfect fit demographically,” said FX marketing exec VP Stephanie Gibbons. “The viewers have been clamoring, especially online, asking when the new episodes were finally coming.”

But why just one episode?  I want to have them all available online.  Studies show that distributing TV shows online does not cannibalize audiences.  In fact, it tends to reinforce them.

This comes after a series of announcements related to TV on MySpace, which is beefing up its video content to become a destination for television on the web.
