I have sleeping troubles. I stay up late and wake up early. It’s part of the reason I live in a city that never sleeps. New York understands me. We share an aversion to sleep.
So does television. With it’s extensive late-night lineup, TV has always been a haven for those who want to stay awake at night. But not everyone’s an insomniac, so not everyone can keep their eyes open long enough to catch a funny Scotsman deliver Late Late Night laughs.
A funny Irish-American, however, you’ll soon be able to watch anytime.
If you crave comedy but can’t stay up past the witching hour, NBC and the internet have the answer. As part of a greater social networking and user-generated content effort, the network announced that starting August 27, fans will be able to stream full-length episodes of Late Night with Conan O’Brien on-demand from NBC.com starting at 8AM the day after they air.
Jay Leno’s been showing off his extensive car collection online at Jay Leno’s Garage (Tilzy.TV page) and you can catch choice clips from the Late Show with David Letterman on DaveTV, but Conan will be the first of the late night comedy crew to consistently stream full episodes online.
Well, that’s if you don’t count Tom Green.
The cancer survivor and former Mr. Barrymore has been broadcasting Tom Green’s The Channel out of his living in the Hollywood Hills since July 2006. Green’s eccentricities, temper, and guest line-up (including Xzibit, Bob Sagat, Steve-O, Andy Dick, and others) have garnered quite a following. There’s even a petition going around that requests Green be Conan’s successor after the latter replaces Leno in 2009. Perhaps in a few years NBC will be streaming episodes of Late Night with Tom Green, too.
