If you take this week’s U.S. Top 50 at face value, you may not notice too many differences from the previous week. After all, there are no changes at #1 or in the top five in general. But beneath the surface, there are some interesting narratives we can pull out.

The Slavic-American triumvirate
Vlad and Niki, Like Nastya, and Kids Diana Show have a lot in common. All three are globetrotting family vlogs led by their titular figures and their respective siblings. They all have roots in Slavic countries and freewheeling travel schedules that allow them to visit countries across the globe. And all three of them are Top 50 all-stars.
Depending on what week it is, any of these three channels could be ahead of the other two. During the final week of October, it was Vlad and Niki’s turn to take the lead. Diana finished 15th, Nastya was one spot behind in 16th, and the Russian-born stars of Vlad and Niki were clear of their rivals in sixth.
As you can see from the above chart, Vlad and Niki’s fortunes seem to rise and fall at dramatic intervals. It’s hard to make predictions about where this channel will end up in our U.S. Top 50, but its presence in the ranking is all but guaranteed. No other family vlogs are quite on Vlad, Niki, Nastya, and Diana’s level, and their ability to mix formats and appeal to international audiences will probably keep them on top as the calendar turns over to November.
Any Halloween creators in the chat?
For certain creators, spooky season is the most wonderful time of the year. On Shorts, the prominence of Halloween-themed content isn’t as pronounced, but there are still some creators who don classic costumes to make their videos a little bit scarier.
Enter Jeff and Liz, the stars of a channel called Jeff and Liz Original Vids. In their videos, they dispense parenting hacks that can help first-time mothers and fathers make life a little less hectic.
That on its own is not noteworthy, especially on Shorts, but Jeff and Liz do particularly well when they post videos that are appropriate for spooky season. In fact, their most-watched Short of all-time shows parents a neat way to keep track of their kids on Halloween: Just stick reflectors on them!
With Halloween 2024 just around the corner, Jeff and Liz are adding more trick-or-treat hacks to their library. If you’re more interested in the candy side of things, you could always look for some Trendy Treats (#40) on Shorts instead.
Crawfish, anyone?
If you want to examine a typical slice of Louisiana life, then you have to dive into the delicious world of gulf-shore cuisine, and the Louisiana Crawfish Company is a good place to start. As the food supplier reaches its 40th year of operation, it is taking its business to new heights thanks to its short-form videos.
Like other food channels on YouTube, the Louisiana Crawfish Company has found a pint-sized way to get outsized viewership: Just get a child involved. In this case, the young seafood aficionado is known as the “Craw Kid,” and he knows his stuff. He can even peel crawfish on “nightmare mode,” so you know he’s a real boss.
Thanks in large part to the Craw Kid, the Louisiana Crawfish Company got 131.6 million weekly views and cracked the U.S. Top 50 for the first time, topping out in 26th place. If you like what you see on this channel, you can always hop over to their website and order some fresh seafood for yourself. But be warned: Just because you’re following in the Craw Kid’s footsteps doesn’t mean you’ll automatically inherit his skills. For you, nightmare mode might be more craw than you can handle.
