Channels that don’t post on Shorts and don’t appeal to kids will have trouble finding places among the 50 most-watched YouTube channels of the week. But there are still some long-form titans that are earning their spots near the top of our rankings.
The Top 5
🥇 Anaya Kandhal just closed out another month as the most-watched channel on YouTube. The home of a cute Indian child and her parents has been a go-to source for family entertainment throughout the entire summer. The Kandhals have been YouTube’s first family since April, when they topped our monthly Top 100 for the first time. As the calendar moves into September, this channel’s progress shows no signs of abating. Anaya Kandhal picked up 755.4 million weekly views to finish #1 in the Global Top 50 once again.
🥈KIMPRO occupied each of the top three spots in this ranking at some point in August. Two weeks ago, the Korean channel known for YouTube Shorts memes ascended to the #1 spot. After a brief dip back to #3, KIMPRO found itself in second place as the month drew to a close. With 750.3 million weekly views, Korea’s biggest YouTube channel is primed to overtake Anaya Kandhal seven days from now. With enough traffic, KIMPRO could even eclipse 50 billion lifetime views before the end of September.
🥉 T-Series is leading us to coin new idioms over here at Tubefilter. Instead of saying that I’ll do something “when pigs fly,” I now say I’ll do it “when T-Series falls out of the top three.” The Indian record label has taken a backseat in our charts during the summer of Anaya Kandhal, but even without #1 finishes to its name, T-Series is still having itself a strong 2024. It earned its latest third-place finish thanks to a seven-day total of 739.3 million weekly views. Even in third, T-Series is never far from the top of our charts.
🌟 Toys and Colors repeated two distinctions over two consecutive weeks: The family-oriented hub was the most-watched U.S.-based channel for the second week in a row, and it also repeated its fourth-place finish in the global chart. Its partners at pocket.watch have helped turned Toys and Colors into a premium kids’ content channel on YouTube, and that work is paying off to the tune of 588.7 million weekly views.
✨ Family Funny Diary is the English-language name of the channel that currently sits in fifth place in the Global Top 50. Its short-form library brought in 517.9 million views during the week that was.
Top Gainers
The big red monster depicted in the above image may look scary, but he actually has a passion for cultural exchange, and BingGo was his name-o. He’s the official mascot for BingGo Leaders, a Vietnam-based channel that just made its inaugural appearance in our Global Top 50 chart.
The Leaders mentioned in BingGo’s channel name are cultural ambassadors who bring languages like English into children’s homes and classrooms. The organization has already worked across its home nation, and it’s now reaching pupils on YouTube, where its videos help young Vietnamese speakers add a second tongue.
BingGo Leaders videos follow a predictable pattern. Young Vietnamese children are paired with English-speaking adults, who impart life lessons that can be translated into any language (Don’t leave the faucet running! Use water to clean soap out of your eyes!) Everything is bright and agreeable, as family content on YouTube Shorts typically is.
On the simplest level, BingGo Leaders is yet another example of bite-size children’s entertainment that succeeds on YouTube. But its multicultural approach also shows us that the Vietnamese Shorts boom is going global. Local consumers are taking in Shorts content from across the globe as local videos are exported to the masses.
The result, at least for BingGo Leaders, was 313.8 million weekly views during the last week of August. The Vietnamese channel upped its viewership by 17% week-over-week to move up six spots and top out at 25th place in the Global Top 50. Its programs are receiving a lot of attention online — so it seems to be a good time to be an English teacher in Vietnam.
