Chefkoudy has an interesting trajectory that showcases the creator trends on YouTube that have dominated the past three or so years.
The channel founded and headlined by 37-year-old Czhechia-born-and-based Jakub Koudelka was initially a YouTube repository for those short-form, fast-paced, hands-in-pans TikTok cooking videos with lots of banging pots and pans. Like this one from July 2021. 👇
Over time, however, Koudelka transitioned into long-form cooking YouTube videos to try to establish a presence on the largest video-sharing site on the planet and reap some of the dollars from its revenue sharing-program. Here he is in September 2021 cooking Tikka Masala from scratch, start to finish, with detailed instructions along the way.
Koudelka’s long-form cooking content saw decent results with videos netting tens of thousands of views, but nothing extraordinary. So the makeshift chef did what lots of creators do and shifted his programming. Oddball compilations and challenge-style content started appearing on the channel before they stopped getting posted altogether. Two-minute uploads – like 10 Bars of Chocolate Coffee ASMR that you can check out below – didn’t tend to net any more views than his longer-form cooking videos.
The extraordinary views came when Koudelka started posting truly wacky, arguably comical, food-based Shorts. Now chefkurdy gets about 30 new Shorts uploads a month that currently average over 20 million views a piece. He has over 19 Shorts with 100 million views. Check out 18 of them below. 👇
The results have been incredible for the channel. Chefkurdy is up to over 7.2 million subscribers. Around 2.5 million of those were added in just the last 3 months. The channel also occupies the #32 spot on the worldwide chart this week with 273.4 million weekly views.
