Minecraft fans are celebrating the sandbox game’s 15th anniversary by interacting with its settings and characters IRL. A live event called Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue will bring the titular game to life when it premieres in Dallas on September 20.
Mojang Studios, which originally developed and released Minecraft, is putting on Villager Rescue alongside producer Experience MOD and creative agency Supply + Demand. (Microsoft acquired Mojang in 2014.)
Attendees will be whisked into a blocky world for an experience that will recreate the first few hours of Minecraft. Each one-hour session will begin with woodchopping and crafting before continuing through “multiple Minecraft biomes” to complete a story-driven quest.

Minecraft has been around so long that an event like Villager Rescue may seem passé at first glance. But the game still has a devoted following on platforms like YouTube, and it is experiencing something of a renaissance during its 15th year of activity. In total, Minecraft has sold more than 300 million copies, making it the best-selling video game of all time.
Villager Rescue will bring together fans and non-fans in the Dallas area, and additional Minecraft experiences have been plotted for other cities as well. The itinerary for those future rescues will be revealed at a later date.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the first-ever immersive touring Minecraft experience where guests can follow a quest through the Minecraft Overworld in real life,” said Mojang Head of Franchise Development Kayleen Walters in a statement. “Starting in Dallas later this year, players will have their dreams of a Minecraft adventure brought to life.”
The waitlist for Villager Rescue tickets opened on May 29. A presale will begin on May 31, with the general public getting access to tickets on June 3. A single pass to the event costs $32, though families can take advantage of a $28 price by purchasing multiple tickets. More info about the Minecraft Experience can be found on its official website.
