That was the benchmark for entry into the chart’s prized spots at the end of June. And the #1 channel got much more traffic than that.
Chart Toppers
KIMPRO is #1 in the Global Top 50 for the second week in a row. The Korean channel has had its most bountiful year in 2023. It has secured major achievements by bringing global pop culture references and idiosyncratic characters to YouTube Shorts. That mix pulled in 701.6 million weekly views as the calendar turned over to July. Though the KIMPRO YouTube channel has been active since 2017, it has earned the majority of its 18 billion lifetime views since the launch of YouTube Shorts in 2021.
The #2 channel in the Global Top 50 is also building a long track record on Shorts. DaFuq!?Boom! was unheard of a year ago, but it has exploded onto the short-form scene by delivering unique animations (which are often set in toilet bowls). Even though DaFuq!?Boom! lost 13% of its YouTube traffic week-over-week, it still registered 655.6 million weekly views to secure its runner-up finish. If it keeps up its current pace, it could surpass ten billion lifetime YouTube views by the end of July.
MaviGadget is #3 in the Global Top 50. As its name implies, it offers videos that feature doodads, gizmos, and gear. You can find hubs like that all over the Top 50 — just look for words like tool, item, and machine in channel names. MaviGadget is the cream of that crop. It collected 588.2 million weekly views at the end of July to reach an all-time high ranking. Go go gadget viewership!
T-Series is in fourth place in the latest Global Top 50. The Indian record label used to rule this chart, but it has struggled to keep up with the flavors of the month on YouTube Shorts. #4 represents its lowest ranking in months, even though it still collected 571.2 million weekly views. T-Series now has 245 million subscribers on its primary YouTube channel. By the end of the summer, it will become the first YouTube hub with 250 million subs.
Tarik Alhalapi rounds out this week’s global top five. The Turkish creator used YouTube Shorts videos to collect 502.9 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
YouTube Shorts has become a theater of many different emotions. In this space, we’ve covered funny videos, weird videos, and everything in between. But which of those feelings is most universal among the short-form audience?
Moosa TV Info begins to answer that question. The Pakistan-based channel is a rising star on YouTube Shorts, and it has found a global audience by stirring up the feels. As seen in the picture above, Moosa TV’s channel icon references three of its most common topics: Miracles, humanity, and horror.
To be sure, there are some miraculous escapes and heartwarming moments among Moosa’s most-watched videos. But the horror videos are stealing the show. The list of Moosa’s greatest hits is filled with scary stuff, some of which defies explanation. I’m not sure what the creature is in Moosa’s all-time #1 clip, but the less I think about it, the better.
I’m not the only person mulling over these strange and sometimes-horrifying videos. Moosa TV Info picked up 278.7 million weekly views as the calendar turned over to July. That put it in 36th place, which is its highest-ever position in the Global Top 50. Moosa increased its traffic by 77% week-over-week, and as long as it doesn’t reverse that trend next week, it will reach three billion lifetime YouTube views.
Analyses of YouTube Shorts have often pegged comedy as the category that’s most suited to short-form video. That may be true, but Moosa TV shows that there’s plenty of appetite for thrills, shivers, and jumpscares. It will continue to offer its mix of miracles, humanity, and horror, but if its views peak around October 31, it will confirm the popularity of the third category.
