Michelle Obama To Launch Spotify Podcast — Welcoming Her Parents, Conan O’Brien, More — On July 29

Roughly one year after Spotify announced its multi-year and multi-podcast deal with the Obamas’ production company, Higher Ground, The Michelle Obama Podcast is set to bow at month’s end.

Hosted by the former First Lady, Obama will welcome guests including: her parents, Marian and Craig Robinson; Conan O’Brien, former adviser to President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarett, journalist Michele Norris, and gynecologist Dr. Sharon Malone to participate in conversations surrounding vulnerability, relationships, and health. The series will arrive on July 29 for Spotify’s 300 million users (free and paid) globally. Salesforce, Dawn, and Tide will serve as the first season’s presenting sponsors.

“My hope is that this series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we’re all trying to answer in our own lives,” Obama said in a statement. “Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations — and hard conversations — with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another.”

While Spotify operates its deal with Higher Ground Audio, the Obamas’ studio also has a multi-year deal with Netflix to create scripted, unscripted, and docu-style video content. All of Higher Ground’s works aim to entertain and inform while uplifting diverse voices within the entertainment industry.

Obama’s podcast arrives as Spotify’s vast ambitions for the space continue take shape, including the launch of two new charts to rank the platform’s top shows, as well as high-profile audio deals with Kim Kardashian, Joe Rogan, and more.
