#SMWLA Preview: Roaming Hunger’s Ross Resnick Loves Bootstrapping Businesses

Starting a business without funding from investors is no easy task. And no one knows this better than Ross Resnick, the founder and CEO of food truck service and app Roaming Hunger.

Resnick told Business Insider in an interview how when he was younger, he traveled to Bangkok and tasted some of the cheap yet high-quality food from the local truck vendors. Resnick wondered why no one in America was doing the same thing.

By 2009, the food truck craze had just begun. Resnick decided to start raising awareness for the movement by starting Roaming Hunger, using nothing but his own money and a lot of long nights and hard work. Roaming Hunger eventually made money through software agreements with other companies, and helping get food trucks set up as vendors for large events.

Now, Roaming Hunger’s smartphone app and website databases contain links to over 6,000 food trucks across America. The company has coordinated food truck catering at events for massive corporations, including BMW, Google, Facebook, Nike, and Target. Roaming Hunger can also run hyper-local marketing campaigns, and has worked with national brands like Capital One, Warner Bros., and Anheuser Busch.

You can hear Resnick talk about his bootstrapping experience with Roaming Hunger during a panel at Social Media Week Los Angeles on June 9, 2015. From 3:45 to 4:45 PM PST, Resnick will discuss his belief that sometimes it’s best to take startup money from no one but yourself. The Roaming Hunger founder and CEO will also talk about the drawbacks and benefits of starting a business without venture capital funding, and how independent companies can continue to work on their own without financial aid.

If you haven’t already, you can purchase your ticket to SMWLA on the event’s site. A complete schedule is also available for your planning needs.
