#SMWLA Preview: Spanish Video Network MiTu Discusses The Rise Of Latino Digital Stars

MiTu has had an impressive history since its inception in 2012. The multi-channel network aimed at Latino audiences quickly grew in popularity, scoring its billionth view only a year after it started making content. With the U.S. Census Bureau estimating a population of about 54 million in 2013, America’s Latino community was obviously hungry for quality digital content.

Eventually, MiTu attracted the attention of Maker Studios, who partnered with the Hispanic network to expand its reach into that demographic. MiTu also teamed with AOL in the past to bring Hispanic entertainment to the media giant’s digital platform. MiTu has even managed to get its content on traditional TV networks HLN and Discovery’s Familia. It’s no surprise, then, that MiTu recently closed a $15 million Series B funding round, led by Upfront Ventures.

MiTu’s founder and president Beatriz Acevedo will discuss this burgeoning Latino consumer base and its impact on the digital entertainment industry at a panel for Social Media Week Los Angeles (SMWLA). Acevedo will talk about how Latino digital stars are making a name for themselves in traditional media by using new media formats. The MiTu president will also address how Hispanic influencers are monetizing their work, how they’re making themselves appealing to networks and the media, and how they’re engaging with their communities.
