Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Gets Second Season, New Showrunners

Netflix seems to have a penchant for renewing its original series faster than subscribers can click “play.” The streaming video-on-demand platform has renewed its Daredevil series for a second season, and has brought on Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez to head the show’s production.

Co-created with Marvel Television and ABC Studios, Daredevil stars Charlie Cox (of Boardwalk Empire fame), a blind lawyer-by-day named Matt Murdock endowed with superhuman senses he uses to fight crime at night dressed as the titular superhero. Netflix’s series co-stars several recognizable names in the film industry, including Vincent D’Onofrio, Ayelet Zurer, and Rosario Dawson. The first season of Daredevil debuted on Netflix on April 10, 2015.

One of Daredevil’s original executive producers, Steven S. DeKnight, is leaving the show for season two. Netflix has tapped Petrie (known for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Ramirez (writer for Orange Is the New Black and Sons of Anarchy). Petrie and Ramirez were previously co-executive producers for Daredevil, and will work alongside current executive producers Drew Goddard (Lost and Alias) and Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb.

Netflix’s take on Marvel’s blind superhero is only one of four planned series with the comic book and entertainment brand. The two companies are also working on shows surrounding the characters Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

No release date for the second season of Daredevil has been revealed as of yet.
