Devin Graham (YouTube’s Devinsupertramp) and Justine Ezarik (aka iJustine) have released two new videos to inspire future filmmakers. The two YouTube stars teamed with Canon to create film trailers to promote the camera company’s newest contest, Project Imagination: The Trailer.
Created in conjunction with director Ron Howard, Canon’s Project Imagination contest will turn one consumer-submitted trailer into a Hollywood short film, produced by and starring actor Josh Hutcherson (of The Hunger Games fame). Howard and Hutcherson will select the winning trailer based on qualities like storytelling, originality, and (of course) imagination.
Canon teamed with advertising and marketing firm Grey Global Group to head promotion for Project Imagination. Grey in turn brought on Graham and Ezarik (both Canon advocates) to create their own trailers as examples of the type of content consumers could submit. In their trailers, Graham and Ezarik tease their fake upcoming “movies” by combining footage from their individual adventures with voice-over narration about their epic travel experiences.

“Our strategy was to choose loyal Canon users with highly engaged fan bases on YouTube who shoot content that depicts authentic everyday life moments,” explained Amy Tunick, President of Grey Activation and PR. “Devin is all about traveling and having adventures while iJustine is about making technology easy and we knew they would both resonate with the consumers we are trying to encourage to upload their own trailers and inspire Ron Howard and Josh Hutcherson.”
The Project Imagination contest is open to all U.S. residents aged 13 and over. Users can submit completed trailers of up to 60 seconds, edited with their own tools and software. Alternatively, Canon is providing creators editing tools free of charge via the contest’s website.
