Netflix Buys Rashida Jones-Produced Documentary ‘Hot Girls Wanted’

Netflix is adding a new non-fiction title to its ever-growing library of streaming content. The video-on-demand subscription service has purchased the documentary Hot Girls Wanted from producer Rashida Jones.

Hot Girls Wanted explores the world of the amateur porn industry and demonstrates the ways the women who choose to enter that career are exploited. Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus directed the documentary, with support from the Kinsey Institute for Sex Research. Deadline, which originally reported the story, noted that Hot Girls Wanted debuted at Sundance on January 24, 2015.

“Netflix is the ideal partner for us; not only do they understand this film but they’re the perfect platform to reach the many people who need to see it,” said Jones in a statement.

“Jill and Ronna have exposed a shocking world of hope and heartbreak,” added Netflix’s VP of Global Independent Content Erik Barmack. “The filmmakers gained unprecedented access into a world never documented until now, and we are proud to bring their unflinching work to a global audience.”

Netflix has recently been on a content acquisition kick, striking a four-film deal with Mark and Jay Duplass and ordering Will Arnett’s comedy series Flaked. The SVOD service has promised to add at least 320 hours of original programming in 2015, as well. Variety has confirmed Netflix is planning to raise $1 billion in long-term debt to make this ambitious content plan a reality.

The Netflix purchase of Hot Girls Wanted was brokered by UTA Independent Film Group and Submarine for the filmmakers. The documentary is set to arrive on the streaming platform some time in 2015.
