Super Deluxe, the TBS’ comedy warehouse home to the crude comics of Brad Neely, the neurotic family dynamics of Maria Bamford, and the unskillful womanizing of Bob Odenkirk’s Derek and Simon, announced it will have a few new Hollywood stars shining in its domain.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Saturday Night Live vet, Norm MacDonald, and Arrested Development David Cross will both soon have their own, online exclusive shows. A CGI Macdonald is set to reprise the comic’s sly-grinned stint as Weekend Update anchor starting this Wednesday in Norm MacDonald Presents The Fake News (and hopefully incorporate some Burt Reynolds impressions), while Cross will star in a series of presumably left-leaning one-offs set to drop later in the Fall.
There’s no word on how MacDonald decided to go digital, but Cross’ in was obviously through Odenkirk. The two have been buddies since the mid-90s comedic tragedy that was the Ben Stiller Show and even have a website together. The announcement also comes just a month after Funny or Die funnymen Will Ferrell and Adam McKay convinced friend and comrade
Judd Apatow to come on board and online. The floodgates holding back the film and comedy industries’ finest won’t open until one of the big players figures out how to pay its talent big bucks, but until then, colleagues and friends will start to trickle in. I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael McKean or Christopher Guest soon showed up with their own online shows alongside Harry Shearer, or maybe even if MacDonald convinced Adam Sandler to play around just for old times’ sake.
