Channel Frederator Celebrates its 100th with Doogtoons and Weird Al

In November 2005, former Hana-Barbara president and MTV vet, Fred Seibert formed a cyberspace venue where his homegrown production studio could showcase some of the best amateur and professional cartoons around. For nearly the past two years, Frederator Studio’s Channel Frederator (Tilzy.TV page

) has been vetting short animation submissions from some of the medium’s top talent, packaging the best into weekly installments, and releasing them to the internet’s masses.

Yesterday they dropped their 100th episode.

To celebrate the occasion, the “Cartoon Central on the Internet” decided to ditch the status quo and go with something epic instead of the usual, hand-selected assortment. Doug Bresler’s 11-minute animation of Weird Al’s best R. Kelly impersonation (no, not that

kind of impersonationthis kind) fits the bill, and doesn’t disappoint. ###

Trapped in the Drive-Thru” is possibly both Doogtoon’s (Tilzy.TV page) and Weird Al’s opus. A hip-hop mopera, that captures the genius and/or utter lack of sanity in all 22 chapters of the original “Trapped in the Closet” through an ebb and flow of high-pitched crescendos accented with goofy animations that elevate the everyday act of grabbing pick-up to a level of ridiculous comedy. It’s only fault could be the creators’ choice of subject matter, in that the imitated is arguably so absurd to begin with, that it can’t possibly be parodied enough.

Congrats to web video’s latest centenarian and here’s to many more.
