Be Keen, Be Clean: Be ZapRoot

Products with a greenish hue have become a major force in Internet video — as they have everywhere else — so it’s no surprise that Next New Networks would take on the growing niche.  Zaproot launched today with squeaky clean coverage of green lifestyles; it includes quirky cuts and a sunny host with the charming chirp of a Kiwi.

Jessica Williamson comes to Zaproot following supporting roles in two independent features, ‘Dead Quiet’ and ‘Topanga Fairie Tales,’ as well as many short films. She is “a muse that’s kept it organic and sustainable for years, and hopes she can help you to make it a little greener.”

Producers Sarah Szalavitz and Damien Somerset are also well prepared for the challenge.  Szalavitz is the Director of Content Development for Veoh Networks as well as a co-producer of Alive in Baghdad and Awkward Sex Stories. Somerset was an Executive Producer of TreehuggerTV (Tilzy Page) producer for Ecorazzi, a web video consultant for GOOD Magazine and has worked for years in the Film, Television and Web industries.

We’ve heard rumblings that the frequent mid-sentence cuts tend to discombobulate, or that the clean-sheen consumerism might haze a noble cause, but I don’t mind either.  The cuts keep me on my toes, and consumer services for (wannabe) greenies are blowing up — we need a way to stay atop the latest trends.  As long as the show remains fresh, quick and unpretentious, I’ll stay tuned.

On the other hand, I do think the “Mac guy” got a bit too much coverage in this particular episode.  I’m happy for Justin that he’s able to afford all those cars for all those people, but I think he should stick to a scripted format.

Congrats to everyone involved in Zaproot.  This is a green show with some sustainable energy.
