Traditional television networks are preparing an aggressive approach to digital distribution for their fall lineups, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
NBC will offer full downloads of season premieres via Amazon.com and the iTunes Store and t is scheduling over 1000 screening parties for the “Friday Night Lights” season premiere using Houseparty.com.
FOX is offering streams of its “K-ville” premiere on over 200 sites with a 17-minute sample of “Prison Break.”
ABC will not release full episodes before they premier on traditional television but, of course, shows will be available on ABC.com’s full-screen video player.
CBS will be creating short form versions of its long form shows specifically for the internet and “taking [their] content to where the eyeballs are.”
John Miller, chief marketing officer at NBC Universal Television Group says, “We generally feel (that) if someone has seen a show and liked the show, they will tell others and come back for more regardless of where they saw it. That builds ratings.”
