ESPN to Air Fan-Generated Videos on Monday Night Football

Bust out the inspiration behind those Super Bowl shuffle remixes and die-hard fan clubs. ESPN’s Monday Night Football is looking to air user-generated videos to promote the network’s upcoming gridiron coverage.

According to the press release, “Throughout the NFL season, fans will be invited to create personalized videos promoting their favorite teams’ upcoming MNF appearance and upload them to the “Monday Night Surround” section on ESPN.com. Two videos will be selected each week and shown on the air during MNF. Videos will highlight the teams set to play in the following week’s MNF game on ESPN, as fans voice why they think their teams will win the game, and why NFL fans should tune-in.” ###

The videos that make it to broadcast will be hand-selected by the Monday Night Football crew, while those that didn’t make the cut will appear online for Cheeseheads, members of Raider Nation, and other fan sets to enjoy.

The NFL is alienating sports writers and fans while it increases its tight stranglehold on football coverage in an effort to become the sport’s only online destination. I’m certain that the league will eventually solicit fans to contribute to NFL.com , but in the mean time ESPN is doing a wonderful job reaching out.

Along with the expectedly awesome relaunch of ESPN 360, broadcasting fan videos during one of the most popular weekly sporting events is sure to draw some more viewers to TV screens and more users to the network’s website.
