Nick Cannon's Online Summer Camp

Unlike Disney’s farm league for pop icons that is The Mickey Mouse Club, 1990’s Nickelodeon hasn’t produced too many names that would ring a bell on today’s music scene. Nick Cannon’s an exception.

The rapper/actor/comedian isn’t OMG! She shaved her head!” or “WTF! Is he crying on camera?” famous, but he has released a platinum album, collaborated with a number of top Billboard artists, and made a fair share of movie appearances. All that came since 1998, when Cannon got his first break hosting Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy-cum-variety show, All That.

It’s only fitting that Cannon be in charge of mentoring and grooming Nickelodeon’s next class of possible future pop princes and princesses on Nick Cannon’s Summer Camp.

Premiering on TurboNick July 22nd

, the five-part reality series marks the children’s network’s first foray into original online programming and will feature a hand-picked, eight-member, all-star, pre-pubescent group – “The Giggle Club” – as it goes through a “megastar boot camp” to acquire the talents it will need to make it in the music biz.

Legendary music man Quincy Jones, and his son Quincy Jones III, are on board as executive producers to hopefully bring some old school flava to Cannon’s modern 90s throwback shtick.

Variety reports that the series will include the group’s journey through “voice training, dance lessons, songwriting, acting, stage presence and physical conditioning.” Here’s to hoping that the “physical conditioning” will bring back some good memories.
