Fred Seibert – the guy responsible for Channel Frederator, Next New Networks and many innovative developments in cable TV – announced Frederator Studio‘s “first original series,” The Meth Minute 39
, set to launch near September 5th 2007.The Meth Minute 39 is the brainchild of Dan Meth who’s no stranger to online animation. His previous work includes Hebrew Crunk and The Secret Life of Robots, to name a very few. The new series will feature 39 one-minute original cartoons “revolving around” contemporary popular music….which seems to be Dan’s forte. He wrote, designed, animated, and scored every film by himself. Very impressive.
The internet has become a breeding ground and stepping stone for television broadcast, but in this case, the creators–who clearly have the talent, clout and savvy to pursue a television deal–choose the internet instead. Why? Ownership of their show and complete creative control.
Seibert and Meth are not the first to choose the internet over TV. In June, Homestar Runner creators Mike and Matt Chapman were courted by both Comedy Central and Cartoon Network to join the Adult Swim line-up, but turned down the offer. “If we were doing our show there, we’d still have producers telling us what to do, what to change, what to write, etc. We love the control and the immediacy that writing and creating cartoons on the website brings us. As the ideas come, we can do whatever our whim is that week,” Matt commented.
Finally the gatekeeps are loosing their power!
We’ll keep you updated on the launch of the new show. In the meantime, here’s some Dan Meth funny to whet your appetite.
