Yahoo is teaming up with Hellmann’s (yep, the mayonaise-maker) to create an online cooking show hosted by Dave Leiberman, the former host of another show, (the now defunct) Good Deal on the Food Network.
Dave’s life mission is “to teach people how to live, eat and entertain like a king or queen, even if they have the budget of a commoner.” Admirable. No signs yet of what his new show will entail.
Leiberman’s former foray into online cooking included shows that ranged from critiquing public school lunch menus to describing some very intricate coffee routines to an exploration of diner culture
. Hopefully Yahoo and Hellmann’s will help Leiberman spice things up in the new series. Despite Good Deal’s somewhat bland lineup, Leiberman does have a friendly face and an endearing presence. Maybe a new format will do him well. There is no shortage of food-related TV shows on the web, but its a hot genre with growing interest as cooking becomes a more popular pastime. My suggestion to Dave, Yahoo and Hellmann’s: focus on a very specific niche. But not mayonaise.
