Yahoo's OMG

Yahoo launched its new site, omg!, a few hours ago. No, it’s called “omg!” That was not a sentiment that poured out of me into a hastily punctuated acronym. The channel is a broadband lover’s Us Weekly, except most of the articles are ripped from wires like Reuters and Associated Press. So, basically, it’s Us Weekly without any personality whatsoever.

Although there are promises of original content (in all formats) in the future, video, at the moment, seems to consist entirely of appropriated content from Access Hollywood and Associated Press. There’s video in the news (of which there is currently one and it’s titled “Bruce Willis dispels jealous, Lindsay rumors,” which is a horrible approximation of English syntax), but most of the videos are in the site’s growing database of individual celebrity pages. Brad Pitt, for example, has 10 videos on his page, most of which is footage of Pitt and Angelina Jolie walking down red carpets with the headline, “What’s it like being Brangelina?
