Kevin Durant’s Media Company Will Help Athletes Launch Their Own YouTube Channels

Kevin Durant has had so much fun on YouTube that he wants other athletes to join him there. Durant, who is expected to soon appear in his ninth-straight NBA All-Star Game, has announced that his company, Thirty Five Media, will become one of YouTube‘s Development Partners. Through that agreement, Durant and business partner Rich Kleiman will work with top sportspeople to launch new channels.

The first wave of athletes who will launch their own channels as part of Thirty Five Media’s new initiative includes Richard Sherman of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, Karl-Anthony Towns of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, and Nick Young and Javale McGee, both of whom are Durant’s teammates on the Golden State Warriors. Sherman, known for his boisterous personality, has already launched his channel. Last November, he used it to provide his first public comment after undergoing surgery to repair a torn achilles tendon.

Durant launched his own channel last April, right as his Warriors were beginning a playoff run that would ultimately result in an NBA championship. Since then, Durant has ingratiated himself into YouTube’s creative community. He collaborated with stars like Swoozie and Ryan Toys Review, and he helped YouTube tease an upcoming feature via a Twitter interaction with the video site’s product manager.

“I’ve had an incredible experience on YouTube engaging with fans all around the world and sharing different parts of my life,” Durant said in a press release. “It was natural for me to want to show other athletes what they can achieve on YouTube and to ensure my Thirty Five Media team and I can be a resource for those athletes.”

While he helps others launch their channels, Durant will continue to build his own. One upcoming series he plans to launch will feature the actor Michael Rapoport, who is known for his NBA fandom. That show does not yet have an official release date.
