‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist’ Coming To Machinima On May 23rd

Some of the most legendary fighters in video game history are set to duke it out once again. On May 23rd, Machinima will release the entire first season of Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, an action web series set in the Street Fighter universe.

Assassin’s Fist began back in 2010 when creator Joey Ansah debuted Street Fighter: Legacy, a well-received fan film based on the franchise. After gaining Capcom’s seal of approval but failing to crowdfund the money he needed to make his web series a reality, Ansah brought Assassin’s Fist to Machinima, where its official trailer is now live.

Machinima fans will recognize the many commonalities between Assassin’s Fist and Kevin Tancharoen’s successful Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. Both promise a confluence of flying fists and CG fireballs, both were launched through successful fan films, and both feature casting choices and costume designs that are very faithful to their respective source materials.

Ironically, one of the main differences between Assassin’s Fist and Mortal Kombat: Legacy is the former series’ lack of a tournament setting. Instead of bringing viewers to the Street Fighter arenas gamers know and love, Ansah and his team have chosen to frame Assassin’s Fist as a prequel that will follow young versions Ryu and Ken as they train their moves. Mortal Kombat: Legacy‘s setting provided an easy justification for nonstop action, but while Assassin’s Fist will go a different route, fans who are out for blood need not worry. From the look of the trailer, Assassin’s Fist will pack plenty of punches.
