‘John Wick’ taps TikTok for $500,000 trivia promo

Remember HQ Trivia? It didn’t end so well.

But apparently TikTok is hoping it can do better.

Starting Feb. 22, the platform is hosting five days’ worth of live, interactive, HQ Trivia-esque events with a total prize pool of $500,000.

The whole shebang, called TikTok Trivia, will be hosted by TikToker James Henry (4.2 million followers) and streamed from TikTok’s official @TikTok account. It’s sponsored by Lionsgate and upcoming film John Wick: Chapter 4.

“Game shows and trivia had been a part of popular culture for years, and I’m thrilled to work with TikTok to bring this engaging entertainment format to TikTok LIVE,” Henry said in a statement. “TikTok Trivia has the power to bring people together, creating an electrifying atmosphere filled with excitement and a shared sense of community.”

TikTok Trivia is open to any U.S.-based user who’s 18 or older. As of today, stateside users should see a trivia signup widget on their For You feed, or they can find it by searching #TikTokTrivia.

Feb. 22, 23, and 24 will have two sessions of trivia each per day: one from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern, and one from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern.

According to TikTok, each session will involve several rounds of multiple-choice trivia questions. “There will be diverse quiz categories, including everything from lifestyle and sports to music and beauty (and yes…John Wick),” the platform says.

The last two days of TikTok Trivia will bring in “survival rounds,” where “there is no limit to the number of questions, and the difficulty of the questions will keep increasing with the last group standing splitting a $100K prize pool,” TikTok says.

This is TikTok’s first livestreamed trivia event, but far from its first attempt to get more people to tune in for live content.
