Shane Dawson, Jeffree Star, and the duo’s legions of fans are losing their collective minds on social media after the launch of their long-awaited Conspiracy Collection has hit a serious technical snafu.
The issue, which is preventing consumers from purchasing the collection, appears to be with the ecommerce host that powers the Jeffree Star Cosmetics (JSC) website: Shopify. According to numerous users on Twitter, technical issues began cropping up shorty after the launch at 1pm ET, and have been ongoing for roughly the past three hours. Demand for the Conspiracy Collection — the development of which Dawson and Star have been chronicling in their massively-viewed series, The Beautiful World Of Jeffree Star — was apparently so overwhelming that Shopify crashed.
“I just screamed on a conference call and now I’m crying ’cause I feel bad that I screamed,” Dawson tweeted amid numerous missives today in which he expressed his devastation at the turn of the events. “I’m so sorry for the wait. I can’t even enjoy the launch ’cause I feel so sad that you guys are waiting and having issues with the site. But I promise it’s not Jeffree’s team. They had everything in place for this and have been working 24/7 on this for months.”

Star tweeted several hours ago that this marks the “craziest” launch of his career, and that the site was slowly coming back to life — though there appears to still be widespread issues. Apparently, however, some orders did go through, as Star noted on his Instagram Stories that the Conspiracy eyeshadow palette had sold out. A smaller palette dubbed Mini-Controversy was still available, he said, given that it had never made it onto the website in the first place.
Of course, the technical difficulties have not affected fans who purchased their items in-store, given that the collection is also being distributed in collaboration with beauty brand — and brick and mortar retailer — Morphe. In a previous episode of the docuseries, for instance, Morphe said it planned to order between 350,000 and 500,000 eyeshadow palettes for sale in store and online, while Star’s team was planning to order between 250,000 and 300,000 of each of the two palettes within the range for sale on the JSC website.
At press time, Dawson and Star were boarding a flight to Minnesota for their public appearance tomorrow at the Mall Of America. You can check out some of their panicked tweets from this afternoon below:
