YouTuber True Geordie, The Commentator For KSI And Logan Paul’s Match, Launches Mobile Boxing Game

Ahead of the much-ballyhooed boxing match between YouTube megastars Olajide ‘KSI’ Olatunji and Logan Paul on Saturday, several savvy digital entreprenerus have come together to release BoxTuber, a mobile boxing game that lets players fight as or against some of the biggest stars on the internet.

BoxTuber was created by Matt Wilson, YouTube star Brian ‘True Geordie’ Davis, and game developer Viker. Wilson is the founder of sports influencer marketing company Ball Street Network, while Davis was the host and commentator for KSI’s fight with Joe Weller, and the host for Paul and KSI’s second press conference. He will also serve as commentator for KSI and Paul’s match-up this weekend.

In BoxTuber, players must create their own YouTuber characters — which can be customized with exclusive merch — and then build a channel by posting videos in order to gain popularity. As their followings mount, they will earn the opportunity to box True Geordie, The Sidemen, and others — as well as KSI for the championship belt. The app is free on Apple and Android with in-app purchases.

And its timely release has resulted in impressive numbers. The app nabbed 100,000 downloads in its first 24 hours, and also climbed to the top of the UK iTunes charts on the day of its release last Sunday, according to Wilson, with no marketing spend beyond mentions on social media by several of the stars involved.

“I was watching this whole new genre of sports entertainment be born before my eyes,” said Wilson, who first conceived the game while watching KSI’s fight with Joe Weller. “I thought this new genre deserves a game. We’re hoping that BoxTuber can be to YouTuber boxing what FIFA is to soccer and what Madden is to the NFL.”
