You Can Only Listen To Jaden Smith’s New Album On Instagram

Twitter guru Jaden Smith just released his new album—on Instagram.

The album, titled SYRE: The Electric Album, builds off his 2017 studio album, Syre, which features artists including ASAP Rocky, Raury, and Jaden’s sister, Willow Smith. While Jaden used Instagram to tease his 2017 album with a “series of visuals,” SYRE: The Electric Album takes this promotional tactic a step further—you can currently only listen to the album on Instagram. (The 2017 Syre album is available on Spotify and Apple Music.)

Since his new album has debuted on Instagram, Jaden isn’t generating any revenue from people playing his songs yet. However, the artist announced yesterday on Twitter that SYRE: The Electric Album will make it onto “all streaming platforms” on July 12.

SYRE: The Electric Album isn’t the first to have been released on Instagram. Rapper B.o.B. (aka, Bobby Ray Simmons Jr.) released his albumThe Upside Down, via the social app in November 2017. Before that, Beyoncé mastered the art of dropping an album without any hype with her self-titled work, Beyoncé, in December 2013, and Radiohead made a splash in 2007 when the band released In Rainbows on its own website, inviting listeners to pay whatever they wanted (including $0) to own it.

Jaden also isn’t the only Smith family member to have been keeping busy with social video lately. His father, Will Smith, teased some new music on YouTube (where he currently has over 2.4 million subscribers) in late May. Will releases new videos on YouTube every week.
