Kids Compete For The ‘BirLd Cup’ In YouTube Series That Combines ‘Angry Birds’ With Soccer

YouTube Kids is celebrating the World Cup with some help from a notable English club and a few recognizable video game characters. The family-friendly platform is the home of BirLd Cupa series that features players from Everton FC and the aerodynamic avians of Angry Birds.

In BirLd Cup, which blends live-action content with animation, children compete against one another across a series of challenges that are judged by Everton footballers (including Wayne Rooney) and only occasionally linked to the world of soccer. In the first episode, for example, two teams face off in a water bottle flipping challenge. BirLd Cup‘s two hosts, Ruby Clark and Lorenzo “Tekkerz Kid” Greer — the latter of whom is a youngster with significant soccer skills — also serve as its team captains. Oh, and Angry Birds characters occasionally zip across the screen.

This is not the first time Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment has turned its signature characters into web series stars, nor is it the first YouTube Kids series based off a mobile game. The family-friendly platform previously played host to Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force, based off the titular food-slashing franchise.

New episodes of BirLd Cup are expected to launch on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout June and July, with the final installment arriving on July 13th. That schedule will run parallel to the World Cup, which will occur in Russia over a similar timespan. You can find BirLd Cup on YouTube via the official Angry Birds YouTube channel, which has more than 2.4 million subscribers. It is also available through the YouTube Kids app, which first launched in 2015.
