YouTube in “Productive Discussions” With Amazon About Return To Fire TV, Echo Show

Amazon and Google may be finding common ground following a feud earlier this month when YouTube was yanked from Fire TV devices as well as the Echo Show. The search giant said at the time that it was pulling YouTube because Amazon “doesn’t carry Google products” — including Chromecast, Google Home, and Nest items.

But after two years, Amazon said yesterday that it will resume sales of the Chromecast — as well as the Apple TV — even though they compete with its own Fire TV product. In response to the olive branch, a Google spokesperson told CNET, “We are in productive discussions with Amazon to reach an agreement for the benefit of our mutual customers. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

This suggests that YouTube could return to both the Fire TV and Echo Show — a smart speaker with a screen that can play videos using voice commands.

Amazon will vend the standard Google Chromecast and the Ultra model, as well as both Apple TVs. No word yet on whether Amazon will stock Google’s other Home and Nest products.
