Amy Finnerty To Recruit Big Names In Music As SVP Of Talent At Maker

Maker Studios has recently shown an increased interest in the mainstream music industry, inking a deal with Snoop Dogg/Lion and inviting the Wu Tang Clan’s RZA to the studio for a series of guest appearances. Earlier this year, Maker continued down this avenue by hiring Amy Finnerty, formerly of MTV, to be their new Senior Vice President of Talent.

Finnerty worked for many years at MTV and helped popularize several bands within the network, including a little group from Seattle you might have heard of called Nirvana. She also cocked in as an exec at Loud Records, where she did a large amount of work with the Wu Tang Clan. (We can be almost certain that she was responsible for RZA’s appearance at Maker. After all, she did note that she has brought in “old friends and new friends” in her brief time at the studio. I wonder who she could be referring to?)

Maker’s recent push into big names in the music industry includes a recent deal with Snoop (Insert Animal Here)’s WestFestTV. That announcement was accompanied by Snoop dropping into the studio, where everyone seemed delighted to have him. He recently posted an interview with RZA on his own channel, so it seems as if Maker’s new musical ties are helping it grow into a stronger network across the board.

Maker is known in large part for the eclectic musical acts it has recently promoted, the one-man a cappella band Mike Tompkins and the now-songifying-with-Maker Gregory Brothers. With Finnerty in tow, expect Maker to find ways to add new musical names into the fold. If I was Finnerty, I’d give a pen and a term sheet to Dirty Loops next. Just sayin’.
