Description: A serial depiction of the elaborate art of male bonding is gearing up for season two. Pablo Andreu, the creator of the comedy Stray, has sought help from the internet as he angles to fund a new batch of episodes.
The two men at the center of Stray are Rich (Cameron Clarke) and Jay (Sha James Beamon), who are friends and roommates. Rich is uptight and straight while Jay is easygoing and gay, and the dynamic that results from that contrast drives much of the show’s humor. In a web series landscape saturated with romance, Stray is a study of platonic connections. The conversations between Rich and Jay, and the situations they find themselves in, deepen their relationship while providing laughs for viewers.
The second season of the show, Andreu says, will bring more characters into the fold. For more information, peep the pitch video:
Creator Bio: Stray is Andreu’s first major series project. He chronicled his production process in Diary of a Web Series, a column he wrote for us.
Best Perk: A $50 perk package features a magic trick performed by Clarke. We cannot confirm whether this perk magically disappears after Clarke does his trick for the first time.
Why You Should Fund It: As I wrote when I reviewed Stray‘s first season, the show’s primary strength is the chemistry between its two leads, who bring Andreu’s dialogues to life with their lively performances. This is a project that hits the right notes without overcooking its premise or overstaying its welcome. At the same time, there’s plenty more to explore in Rich and Jay’s friendship, so long as Andreu and company can get the funding they need.
