Whistle Sports is hoping its newest show will bring additional legitimacy and interest to the world of trick shots. The digital media company known for its athletic content is behind Next Trickshot Superstar, a reality series that will be distributed through Facebook’s Watch platform.

As its title implies, Next Trickshot Superstar will feature athletes who are capable of sinking long baskets, completing deep throws, and accomplishing other impressive feats. Former NFL star Chad Johnson, who you may remember as the wide receiver formerly known as Ochocinco, will serve as the program’s host. In that role, he will lead the assembled trick shot aspirants through a series of gauntlets that are designed to test their skills. The challenges, as discussed in a press release, will have names like “Human Skeeball, High-Rise Corn Hole, and Zipline Spot Kicks.”

Whistle Sports has long championed trick shots; one of its first partners, Dude Perfect, is known for its activity in that category. In one of its first long-form programming deals, Whistle worked with NBC Sports to create a trick shot show centered around footballing freestylists F2. With its latest series, it hopes to bring additional legitimacy to the art it has championed for so long.

“Y’all know I was born to host Next Trickshot Superstar and can’t wait to see some of the amazing contestants and who takes home the $250K prize,” said Johnson in a press release. “My money is on myself even though I’m the host! I know what it takes to perform at a high level. During my playing days I even pulled off some epic trickshot catches of my own. I’m excited to be a part of this groundbreaking show that will showcase these incredible contestants’ skills and crown them with internet immortality.”

Next Trickshot Superstar will consist of 10 episodes. It is the latest in a series of pickups for Facebook Watch; just yesterday, the social media platform added a pair of new programs to its lineup.
