AT&T Researchers Share Map Depicting Top YouTube Channels In Each State

The United States population is far from homogenous, and our nation’s differences are reflected in our YouTube diet. AT&T researchers have synthesized data from Social Blade and Google Trends to determine the top YouTube channel in each state, and some distinct regional differences can be spotted.

As we would expect to see, the three most popular categories on YouTube — gaming, music, and family — are all well-represented among the top channels in individual states. The rock n’ roll stylings of Fueled By Ramen are popular in the Midwest, the video game guides of IGN appeal to viewers in Western regions like Nevada and Arizona, and the bizarre Toy Freaks channel has found a particularly strong audience in several Southern states.

Perhaps the strongest correlation between a region and a channel is that between Appalachia and the official YouTube hub of the WWE. The wrestling destination is preferred by viewers in states like Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
