YouTube Star Bunny Meyer Shares Her First-Person Account Of Hurricane Harvey

Bunny Meyer, who counts more than eight million subscribers on her grav3yardgirl channel, is one of the biggest stars within YouTube’s community. She’s also a resident of Pearland, Texas, which put her directly in the path of Hurricane Harvey, which has battered Greater Houston since making landfall there on August 25. In a pair of recent vlogs, Meyer shared her first-hand account of the physical and emotional toll Harvey has taken upon her, her family, and the other residents of her metropolitan area.

Though Meyer’s house has been able to avoid major flooding so far, some of the homes of her neighbors and family members have taken on water. In the first of two Harvey-related vlogs she shared with her viewers, she noted that the scale of the storm goes far beyond the sort of intensity Southeastern Texans are used to. “It’s like another world out there,” she said. “This is beyond devastating. We’ve lived through so many hurricanes and we’ve never seen anything like this.”

Meyer’s Harvey vlogs run for more than a half hour each, and her stream-of-consciousness discussion of the events that have transpired in her region present a harrowing, emotional account of the damage that has been inflicted thus far.

Though Harvey has affected Meyer and her family, the YouTube star understands that she is still one of the lucky ones. “As frightening as it has been for us around here, I still feel so blessed and so fortunate, because there are so many people who have seen so much absolute devastation,” she said. “Even the frightening stuff we’ve gone through pales in comparison to some of the stuff other people in this neighborhood have gone through.”

In order to help out the less fortunate, Meyer has urged her fans to donate to the Harvey relief fund set up NFL star J.J. Watt, who plays for the Houston Texans. As of this post, that campaign has raised close to $12 million.
