In April 2016, as part of New Form‘s third batch of pilots, the production company teamed up with Olan Rogers for an animated project called Final Space, which ultimately landed a development deal from TBS.
Now, the partnership that yielded that success story is back in business. Rogers, whose channel has close to one million subscribers, has released The Lion’s Blaze, another animated pilot created alongside New Form.
The Lion’s Blaze follows a group of friends who have been stuck inside a video game for 15 years. In the pilot (spoiler alert!), one member of the group dies, and his companions vow to collect the remaining pieces of the titular plot device in order to win the day.
Rogers’ work would not be out of place on Adult Swim, and his latest pilot is certainly appealing to fans of adult animation. In Final Space, Rogers mixed his madcap sensibilities with sci-fi tropes, but here, many of his jokes stem from video game logic and its numerous inconsistencies. If you enjoyed the last pilot Rogers and New Form made together, you’ll probably dig this one, too. There’s no guarantee The Lion’s Blaze will land its own TV deal, but it can at least stand up as a fun and amusing addition to its creator’s digital library.
