The first episode of the Star Wars: Forces of Destiny web series arrived on July 3, and if you want to know why Disney chose to create a digital companion piece centered around its star franchise’s female characters, look no further than the traffic it received. At the time of this post, Forces of Destiny’s premiere clip has pulled in more than 600,000 views across just two days of activity.
The clip in question features Rey, the protagonist of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, who is voiced in Forces of Destiny by her on-screen portrayer Daisy Ridley. In an action-packed sequence, Rey and the adorable droid BB-8 fend off a monstrous enemy in the desert. It’s quick, lightweight stuff that will serve as a nice appetizer for Star Wars fans — particularly the younger ones — ahead of this December’s release of the eighth episodic entry in the Star Wars film canon.

All eight episodes of Forces of Destiny will be available on the Disney YouTube channel by July 10. From there, the entertainment giant plans to tie its new web series into some of its latest merchandising efforts, because the Mouse House is as the Mouse House does.
