Question-And-Answer Service Quora Launches Beta Version Of Video Responses

Quora, the service that lets its users post questions and employs a voting system to make the best answers rise to the top of each thread, is slowly rolling out a big change. It has launched a video response tool in beta, thus giving its experts the ability to answer with their actions rather than their words.

Video responses serve the Quora categories that are best explained visually; in a blog post, for example, Quora noted that a short clip could show an aspiring kickboxer how to throw a textbook right round kick, as pictured above. “The beta will initially focus on a small number of topics where videos are an effective way to answer questions, including beauty, cooking, fitness, and parenting,” reads the post.

A few video responses have popped up in the wild. Here, for example, is the link to that kick video. Interestingly enough, several other answers have been voted above it in the corresponding thread.

Quora, which according to Alexa is the 115th most trafficked website in the world, and it recently raised a big funding round, so its forays in the world of video should draw plenty of attention. TechCrunch notes that Quora could be on track to butt heads with YouTube, where viewers often search for how-to videos on a variety of subjects.

Quora’s blog post offers no details about how to join its beta group for video. If you’re curious about the service’s new feature and want to know more details, well, you could always ask.
