Louis Cole Is Kickstarting A Documentary That Will Celebrate Global Diversity

Renowned travel vlogger Louis Cole is on the verge of making his first feature-length documentary titled Beyond Borders. In the film, Cole and a friend, Juan-Peter Schulze, plan to travel to 22 countries in six continents over three months in a bid to celebrate global diversity.

A Kickstarter campaign for the project is set to expire next Friday, and has already reached a little more than half of its $150,000 funding goal. “My YouTube and Instagram audiences are really excited about the project,” Cole, who counts 1.9 million subscribers and 1.5 million followers, respectively, told Tubefilter. “I’m going to be updating them with behind the scenes content the whole way.”

According to the campaign page, Cole and Schulze plan to embark in August via a tiny twin engine aircraft. The route, which is subject to change, will include Santiago, Los Angeles, Accra, Dubai, and Kuala Lumpur. A ground crew and production team will facilitate logistics, and, given the ambitious scope of the project, Cole and Schulze say they have been in preparations for roughly three years. Cole and Schulze previously collaborated on a flight across Southern Africa in 2015, which Cole covered extensively on his vlog channel at the time.

Beyond Borders is especially topical in our current political climate of division, Islamaphobia, and people losing tolerance,” says Cole, who adds that the film will aim to celebrate human commonalities across the globe. Cole and Schulze will be funding the intercontinental flights themselves, according to the campaign page, and the voyage will still take place even if the funding goal isn’t reached. Kickstarter earnings will be entirely allocated toward film production.
