Description: How do you spice up your web series about young people living in the city? If you’re Luka Glinsky, you shoot the whole thing in one take. Glinsky is the creator of A Beard Grows In Brooklyn, which will examine the lives of its hipster subjects without using any cuts.
In terms of its subject matter, A Beard Grows In Brooklyn is a lot like many of the other indie web series that have been made over the past few years. Where Glinsky and his team hope to differentiate themselves from the pack is in their camerawork. Each 30-minute episode will feature just a single take, with the camera moving into and out of individual conversations and events.
In his pitch video, Glinsky gives potential backers a full preview of how this will look. In a scene set at an apartment party, we get a one-take look into organic food, questionable startups, and candlelit cults. You know, just Brooklyn things.
Creator Bio: Glinsky himself is (you guessed it) a millennial who lives in New York. His previous work includes roles in both the cast and crew of the web series [Blank] My Life.
Best Perk: Those who contribute at least $25 will gain access to a gif made on-set by the cast of A Beard Grows In Brooklyn. There’s no word about the reactions for which this gif will be appropriate.
Why You Should Fund It: The rationale behind funding A Beard Grows In Brooklyn is simple: It looks cool. Few indie creators have attempted anything as ambitious with their web projects, and based on what Glinsky has presented so far, we’re confident he and his team can pull off something special. As the Kickstarter page puts it, the decision to attempt such an experimental approach wasn’t made just for stylistic reasons — it also informs the show’s narrative. “A metropolitan lifestyle is brimming with moments of kismet, insanity, tranquility, danger, absurdity– and they all come & go without any explanation,” reads the pitch. “But you accept them all if you want to enjoy the ride.”
