Jukin Media Pacts With MGM Television To Co-Produce Several Competition Series

User-generated media powerhouse Jukin, which licenses viral clips, is partnering with MGM Television to co-produce several unscripted, competition-formatted series for distribution on network and cable TV as well as premium SVOD channels. MGM Television is already behind a slew of successful competition series, including Survivor, Shark Tank, and The Voice.

“The projects we are developing together break away from the traditional clip show format and offer something disruptive and fun for fans of UGC,” said Barry Poznick, president of unscripted television at MGM. As opposed to Jukin’s usual clip compilation show format, the two companies will focus on competitions, game shows, and talent shows that are infused with user-generated clips.

Jukin has already released several series touting its vast and riveting library, including MTV2’s FailArmy, Now That’s Funny! for Viacom International, Fox’s World’s Funniest Fails, Awesome Pet Thoughts on Comcast’s Watchable platform, and FailFive on Verizon’s Go90.

“With their top notch track record for producing innovative formats, MGM is the perfect partner for us to take our massive library and continue to push the envelope for how user footage can be woven into the fabric of a series,” said Jukin co-founder and chief development officer Josh Entman in a statement. In addition to the aforementioned series, Jukin also operates its own social video properties, including FailArmy, People Are Awesome, The Pet Collective, and JukinVideo, which together boast more than 55 million fans.

MGM Teleivision, which produces Fargo for FX and is also behind Hulu‘s forthcoming adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, has a music-based competition series in the works titled Beat Shazam that’s inspired by the popular app and hosted by Jamie Foxx. It’s slated to bow this summer on Fox.
