Vimeo Launches Support For VHX On Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, And Xbox One

Following its acquisition last May of OTT subscription platform VHX — a turn-key service that enables filmmakers to vend content through their own web properties — Vimeo has announced today that VHX will now be supported on the Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and XBox One platforms.

VHX is already supported on iOS, Android, Roku, and Apple‘s tvOS, but this launch will bring the service to even more connected TVs.

At the same time, Vimeo announced at CES today a multi-year partnership with Toronto-headquartered entertainment company Blue Ant Media, which owns and operates the Smithsonian Channel in Canada and HGTV in New Zealand, among other properties. As its new technology partner, Vimeo will power multiple VOD channels for Blue Ant Media through VHX. And Blue Ant will be one of the first companies to leverage the new smart TV platforms with Love Nature, a library of wildlife documentaries and series.

“We’re excited to help our partners reach audiences on next-generation TV and game console, where the potential for discovery and subscriber acquisition is massive,” Vimeo’s OTT services general manager, Jamie Wilkinson, said in a statement.

Added Jesse Dallal, Blue Ant’s VP of product development, “Providing a great customer experience in every context requires not only the best content, but also simple ways to discover it and stunning video playback on any screen. Vimeo shares our vision for seamless multi-platform experiences and has the world-class video streaming technology to help us bring Love Nature to more people, places, and platforms in the future.”
