Sing, the upcoming animated film from Minions studio Illumination Entertainment, is set to hit theaters on December 21st. In anticipation of the film’s release, Illumination has turned to the YouTube community. The production company’s channel is the host of a live stream that will feature some of YouTube’s most popular performers in a concert that supports Sing.
The stream is called “A Holiday Remix: Live on YouTube,” and it will feature classic wintertime staples re-imagined by members of the digital video community. Performers who are expected to take the stage include Mike Tompkins, Karmin, UsTheDuo, Chloe x Halle, KRNFX, Peter Hollens, Harper Still, Kina Grannis, and Leroy Sanchez. Kurt Hugo Schneider, who has worked with several of the aforementioned musicians and many others, will present a video during the event.
This is not Illumination’s first overture to the YouTube community ahead of Sing’s release date. As many other studios do with their tentpole films, Illumination set up Sing-themed stages at YouTube Space LA and invited content creators to use those stages to shoot music videos. A playlist of the results can be found here.
A Holiday Remix: Live on YouTube goes live at 8 PM ET on December 16th. Beyond the Illumination YouTube channel, it will also be distributed through the YouTube homepage.
