Captain Sparklez, Shanna Malcolm, Tay Zonday To Voice Machinima’s ‘Happy Wheels’ Series

At its first-ever NewFronts pitch in 2015, gamer and fandom-focused digital network Machinima announced that it was readying an animated series inspired by Happy Wheels, a cult-favorite video game in which players must traverse levels using various vehicles amid blood and gore at nearly every turn.

And today, Machinima announced that Happy Wheels: The Series is set to premiere stateside on Verizon’s go90 mobile video platform on Nov. 15. The series is being produced by BMP Digital — the digital arm of Bunim/Murray Productions, which is behind reality show trailblazers including The Real World and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Happy Wheels was created by video game designer Jim Bonacci in 2010, and today boasts 12.3 million players per month and over three billion ‘Let’s Play’ video views on YouTube.

The nine-episode series will feature a who’s-who of voice talent culled from the YouTube gaming community and beyond, including Jordan Maron, Lance Stewart, Anna Brisbin, Ryan McNulty, Shanna Malcolm, Tyler Pappas, Jerome Aceti, Ricky Hayberg, Eliot Dewberry, and Tay Zonday. Happy Wheels: The Series tells the story of five concerned citizens who form a safety awareness committee after locals continue to be mangled by traps, spikes, mines, cars, and other hazards. The committee largely fails, according to Machinima, often with hilarious results.

Globally, the show will launch on SkyQ in the U.K., in AMC Iberia in Spain and Portugal, and via Sohu in China. As it continues its international push, Machinima has inked licensing deals with each of the aforementioned platforms in recent months.
