Live Streaming App Kastr, Co-Founded By YouTube Star Kurt Hugo Schneider, Is Now In Beta

Another startup has added its name to the long list of apps within the burgeoning mobile live streaming market. It’s called Kastr, its three co-founders include YouTube star Kurt Hugo Schneider, and it’s now available in beta.

Many live streaming apps sell themselves by noting the exclusive features they bring into the crowded mobile-live field, but in the end, content is still king. More than anything else, Kastr is touting its strong lineup of launch partners, several of whom are popular YouTube stars. Beyond Schneider, viewers who download Kastr can watch regularly-scheduled broadcasts from creators like Jack & Jack and Kirstie Maldonado of Pentatonix. In addition, Kastr’s seed round was led The ProSiebenSat.1 Group, a German media company that also owns digital network Studio71. Several of the YouTube stars who have showed up on Kastr so far, including Roi of Guava Juice and Harley Morenstein of Epic Meal Time, are partnered with Studio71.

Kastr’s CEO is Adrian Woolfe, who is best-known for helping build Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Into a global phenomenon during his time at Celador International. The new app’s other co-founders are Schneider and tech entrepreneur Rishi Mehta. “2016 is clearly the year of live video, in addition to creating opportunities for professional digital content creators to live ‘kast’ whatever they want, the Kastr platform also enables the production of original, formatted interactive content,” said Woolfe in a press release. “Kastr is placing the emphasis on quality live experiences that can be produced in real-time from anywhere in the world.”

If you’re curious to check out Kastr, you can download it from the App Store. An Android version is not yet available.
