The Upcoming Streamy Awards Will Be Broadcast On YouTube

Many of the creators honored at The Streamy Awards are known for their work on YouTube, and this year, the video site itself will play a bigger role in the festivities. YouTube has been announced as the official live streaming partner of the Streamys, and it will broadcast the annual celebration of online video excellence beginning at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on October 4th.

Viewers who wish to watch the yearly award ceremony will be able to find it on the official Streamys YouTube channel. In addition, several of the creators who will be in attendance are expected to broadcast the festivities on their respective channels by using the new mobile live streaming feature YouTube unveiled at this year’s VidCon.

By live streaming the Streamys (say that one five times fast), YouTube will continue to push into a format it has prioritized in recent years. It has recently faced strong challenges in the live streaming arena, both from major tech companies like Facebook and mobile-first upstarts like Periscope and YouNow.

“YouTube has long been a supporter of the Streamy Awards, sharing its commitment to honor the innovators who are creating cutting edge content for millions of fans around the world,” said YouTube Chief Marketing Officer Danielle Tiedt in a press release. “With audiences migrating to live streaming event programming, we are thrilled to make the 6th Annual Streamy Awards available to audiences worldwide.”

This year’s Streamys will be hosted by King Bach, who is best known for its success on Vine. Bach will be joined by many notable figures within the online video world; Flula Borg, Shay Carl, Yousef Erakat, HolaSoyGerman, Jenn McAllister, Logan Paul, Smosh, and James Van Der Beek were recently added to the list of presenters.
