Fullscreen’s Political Reality Show ‘House Divided’ To Premiere On October 3rd

The newest series from Fullscreen sounds like the setup for a joke, but it is going to be quite serious indeed. The digital media company’s reality show House Divided, which will put young people of all political persuasions together under one roof, will premiere on October 3rd.

House Divided, which was first announced back in July, is an attempt to merge the politically-charged climate created by election season with Fullscreen’s “youth media” speciality. The seven teenagers and twenty-somethings who will inhabit the titular house include Democrats, Republicans, and undecided voters, and they are also diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. In the weeks leading up to the election, we’ll watch them bicker, squabble, and argue about the issues that matter to them while also making cases for their candidates of choice.

When I first wrote about House Divided, I compared it to Real World, the long-running MTV reality series that has, for several decades, served as a lens into youth culture. Fullscreen’s new show is looking to accomplish something similar, but instead of arguing about romance and broken friendships, the residents of the Washington, D.C. row house where House Divided is set will create drama through political discussions.

“For the first time, the number of millennials registered to vote rivals that of the baby boomers and ‘House Divided’ will provide a platform for real conversations that matter to them,” said Scott Reich, SVP of Programming at Fullscreen, in a press release. “This generation is more connected and diverse than ever before and Fullscreen is providing the platform for these disparate voices to be heard.”

To watch House Divided, you’ll need a subscription to the Fullscreen SVOD service, which costs $4.99 per month. The first two episodes of the new show will be available on October 3rd, with additional installments to follow.
