YouTube Star Lilly Singh Gets Introspective In New Music Video ‘Voices’

Bolster by the popularity on YouTube and other social media platforms, Lilly “Superwoman” Singh has dabbled in acting, writing, and music. With her latest venture into the arts, she has delved into her inner psyche with a music video called ‘Voices.’

The ‘Voices’ video, which runs for more than 10 minutes, is more of a short film than anything else. It is sharply produced, with multiple sets and costumes adding to its grand feel. The song at its core is a genre-bender that jumps from hip-hop to R&B to pop as it goes on.

The only constant is Singh, who remains at the video’s center for its entire runtime. Through ‘Voices,’ the Canadian-Indian YouTube star is trying to tell her fans how she works over her rapid ascent to digital fame. “We’re constantly hearing our voices and therefore it’s in our best interest to befriend them,” reads the video’s description. “But true strength lies in deciding which of our voices govern our actions and which ones define us. It’s not about having voices in our head, it’s about what we do with them. These are my voices.”

Singh, it must be said, is not a natural rapper (though she has dabbled in the genre in the past), and judging from the ‘Voices’ comment section, her fans seem a bit divided on the quality of the new song. For those who wish to hear it live, however, Singh plans to perform it at YouTube FanFest in her hometown of Toronto on August 13th.
